Prince Albert II of Monaco flies into Galway as part of State Visit to Ireland


On the last day of his three day state visit to Ireland, Prince Albert II of Monaco and his fiancée Carlene Wittstock flew into Galway Airport from Dublin this morning to make that all important visit to the Marine Institute at Rinville in Oranmore.

On his Aer Arann flight from Dublin to Galway, Prince Albert was also accompanied by Mr. Paul Kavannagh, the Irish Ambassador to Monaco and his wife Rosemary, Simon Coveney, Minister for Agriculture, Marine and Food along with a delegation from the Monaco Economic Development Chamber.

On their arrival at Galway Airport Prince Albert and Ms. Wittstock were welcomed to Galway by Minister Coveney, Michael Corless, Chairman of the Board of Galway Airport and Joe Walsh, Managing Director of Galway Airport.

On his visit to the Marine Institute National Headquarters, Prince Albert was accompanied by Robert Calcagno who is a Director of the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. During his visit Prince Albert will initiate scientific co-operation between the two institutes.

Later in the day Prince Albert and Ms.Wittstock will visit the Kelly homestead in Drumuria in Newport, Co. Mayo from where his mother's ancestors left in the 1860's for a new life in America.

This weeks State visit takes place fifty years after an official visit by Prince Albert's parents Prince Rainier and Princess Grace.
