A New High for Galway Airport!

20/09/2007
For the month of August 2007 passenger numbers at Galway Airport broke all existing records with a total of 36,754 passengers travelling through the airport which was an increase of 44% over the same period in 2006.This also coincided with breaking the record for the highest monthly passengers on the Galway to London Luton route which broke the 9,000 level for the first time.
This continued growth in passenger numbers at Galway Airport is a clear ’vote of confidence’in the airports’ vital role as a gateway into and out of the Galway region for both business and leisure passengers.
Galway Airport Marketing Manager Michael Moloney said "a key element of this success is the simple fact of how convenient it is to use Galway Airport combined with the addition of 6 new routes to our network so far this year, including 3 new sun destinations,Faro,Malaga and Bordeaux, which have been very well received by our customers this summer".
He also said that the continued growth at Galway Airport has necessitated a wide range of development works to be initiated this summer including upgraded car parking facilities and a major re-vamp of the terminal building. The terminal building works ,which are currently on-going,will provide our customers with a much improved service resulting from new security screening facilities and a totally new Departures lounge to include new cafe and bar facilities and a new retail area.
Moloney goes on to say that "we can promise an even better level of service for our customers at the airport. Our aim at Galway Airport is to continue on this growth path so we have exciting plans for further developments at the airport during 2008 and 2009"
