04/10/2004
Galway Airport made an impressive showing at the first annual Excellence Ireland Quality Association Gala Awards Ceremony in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin, last Thursday night, against top competition from around the country.

Galway Airport was one of three finalists for the Quality Award for Service, which was ultimately won by retail group, Musgrave. The other finalist was the insurance and financial services provider, Friends First.

“I am delighted to see that Galway Airport has been recognised as competitive with such giants of Irish industry”, said Dr. Joe Higgins, Chairman of Galway Airport, “it is a great credit to the management team and staff at the Airport that we have been chosen for such an honour.”

“At a time when the airport is so busy, it is very gratifying that we have been acknowledged for our commitment to service,” he continued. “This does not mean there is no room for improvement – we can always do better – but it is fitting recognition of the effort of all staff at the Airport. I want to put on record my thanks for their hard work.”

An Tánaiste, Mary Harney presented the awards while Elizabeth Keim, Chairman, American Society for Quality was the keynote speaker.

The EIQA final came as Galway Airport reached record figures for July, August, and September, with increases of 76% over the same period last year.
