‘Galway links West to North with New ‘Sky-Road'

Galway Airport has today announced a second new route with Manx2.com to Belfast.

Following on from the very recent announcement of a new service to Cork, Galway Airport in conjunction with Manx2.com, is launching a new air service between Galway and Belfast International Airport which will begin operations from Monday July 5th next.

At the launch in Galway City Museum today, Noel Hayes, Chairman Manx2 said that "this new service will stimulate commerce and tourism between the two cities as Manx2.com will operate a twice-daily commuter service most weekdays and with flights on Sunday evenings too there will be a choice of 18 flights per week".

He also said "our one hour flights will mean that a businessman can now get to Belfast and back the same day eliminating a five hour road or rail journey and giving invaluable encouragement for business and leisure travel between these great cities"

Michael Corless, Chairman Galway Airport, in welcoming this very positive news said "following our announcement last week of a new service to Cork, we are delighted to be able to offer further air connectivity, this time between Galway and Belfast. Galway Airport now provides air access to each of Irelands' provincial capitals".

Eamon O'Cuiv, the newly appointed Minister for Social Protection, who launched the new service to Belfast at Galway City Museum said "I am delighted to be associated with the launch of this new air link between Galway Airport and Belfast International as I believe this new link between the West of Ireland and the North of Ireland's first city will really benefit the business community and increase the accessibility of the huge marketplace in the North and the fine cities of Belfast and Derry".

Joe Walsh, Managing Director, Galway Airport said that "this new service is a result of our strategy to focus our efforts on routes linking Galway and the wider region with major urban centres and international airports within Ireland and the UK. This will be achieved by offering a convenient, frequent, reliable and quality of service to suit both business and leisure travellers".

Finally he said "another benefit of this new double daily service to Belfast International Airport,   which is the second largest airport on the island of Ireland with annual passenger numbers close to 5 million, is that it further expands on the connectivity options available from Galway Airport for the business community with access to destinations in the UK Europe and the USA".

Passengers will have a choice of 18 flights per week to and from Belfast at times to suit the day return business traveller or for week-end breaks away in either city for example leisure passengers leaving Belfast on a Friday at 6.35pm, arriving in Galway at 7.35pm and be in the City of the Tribes for a relaxing week-end break returning to Belfast on the Sunday afternoon leaving Galway Airport at 5.15pm having had a great break in the Galway region.
