Work commences on New Look Galway Airport

13/07/2007
Last week work started on the next phase of Galway Airport’s three-year development plan with the commencement of an extensive upgrade of the main terminal building.
This follows on from the on-going external ground works which have resulted in a vast improvement in car parking,drop-off and pick-up areas and traffic flow in and out of the airport complex.
The current phase of terminal building works have been planned in such a way as to minimise disruption to the travelling public with most of the works being carried out during the night when the airport is closed.

This willl consist of an enlarged and speedier security screening process and most importantly a greatly enhanced Departures Lounge which will have for the first time, complete cafe and bar facilities plus a much improved retail area. This phase of the overall upgrade will also include new toilet facilities in all areas of the terminal building.

This current phase of Galway Airport’s development has been necessitated by the fact that the airport is Ireland’s fastest growing regional airport where growth in passenger numbers through the airport in 2007 will grow to in excess of 300,000.

Overall when these improvement works are completed later in the summer,Galway Airport will be able to offer its customers a greatly enhanced level of service when they pass through the airport.
Subsequent phases of the airport’s development will see an expansion of its Check-in and Departure facilities along with an expanded Arrivals Hall.

Galway Airport in conjunction with its airline partners Aer Arann,Flybe and Nex Aviation have a total of 16 destinations with over 200 weekly flights to and from Galway city.
